Helena As She Was is an exceptional online resource for learning about The Queen City’s past. The site provides photos, newspaper clipppings and tons of historical inforamtion about virtually everything in Helena’s past.

Helena is a proud Continental Divide Trail Gateway Community

Helena has two accessmpoints to the Continental Divde Trail. The easiest to get to is at the top of MacDonald Pass. The second, slightly more remote accress point, is near the top of Priest Pass. Gateway Communities are welcoming destinations along the Continental Divide Trail for people from around the world looking to experience the CDT. Downtown Helena is about 20 miles (32k) from either of the local access points along the CDT.

Recycling is easy, once you know the rules. Our local recycling service, Helena Recycling accepts types 1 and 2 plastics (no plastic bags of any sort), tin, aluminum, cardboard, paper, and glass.  For home pick up the service is every other week. There are also recycling stations at the Lewis and Clark Fairgrounds, and near the Acropolis Rise trailhead on Cruse Ave.
